7개국어 능통? 강원외고의 숨은 보석

↑강원외고의 경비원으로 근무하고 있는 양광조씨.

강원 외국어 고등학교에는 70이 훌쩍 넘는 연세임에도 불구하고, 7개국어에 능통한 한 분이 계신다. 바로 경비원인 양광조 씨이다. 오늘 그를 인터뷰 해보았다.

-       Hi my name is Yu Jin Kim. And today, I’m going to interview you not only as a GFLH (Gang won Foreign Language High school) student, but also as a student reporter from FM educational broadcasting service. Nice to meet you and thank you for complying with my interviewing.

-       I’m nice to meet you, too

-       Ok, so at first, I ask you for a brief introduction please.

-       I’m Yang Kwan Cho. My hometown is Yanggu, and I work in GFLH with a security guard.

-       What brings you here?

-       Well, that’s because I can speak a little bit of foreign language, I like children, and I love them.

-       So, are you satisfied with now doing?

-       Yeah.

-       Why? Because you like children?

-       Yeah, especially I like them very much. And I’m over 70 years old right now. So all the students in here are like a what, my children, and grandchildren.

-       Any difficulties with now doing?

-       Well, nothing except that sometimes I have to stay here for 14 hours. We have three different shifts in here. So one day, I work from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Because it’s daytime, so it doesn’t matter. But when I work 6:00 PM to 8:00 AM, which is exactly 14 hours’ work, my body sometimes sleepy. And that’s very often.

-       Yeah, and you have to keep your eyes widely open, so it could be hard and sleepy.

-       Yes, it really is.

-       And then, next question. What was your job before coming here?

-       Well, what should I say? I had many jobs. At first, I used to work in Yanggu. I was a mountain guide. And I’d been Vietnam for a Vietnam War. I worked in a KAOVA.. I was a chief, a boss.

-       Wow, great! What was that like? Wasn’t it hard?

-       You mean in KAOVA?

-       Yeah, when you were in Vietnam. You were alone, and in overseas, had no family.

-       Actually, I was 23-25, a bachelor, so I didn’t have to worry about that.

-       Ok. And so did you learn many languages in there?

-       During in my life, well, my hobby was, and is speaking foreign language. When I went to Vietnam, I learned Vietnamese, and even in Vietnam, I met a French, Chinese, German, and I learned their languages from them.

-       Yeah, but speaking many languages is very hard, isn’t it?

-       Um, no

-       But you had to remember all the words in each language.

-       Well, but instead I thought I could accumulate my knowledge in my head.

-       Allow me to tell you that I really adore you that you can speak 7 languages even still now, and had no difficulties of hardships while learning that.

-       Ha-ha, I surprised to hear that.

-       It’s true. I really adore you. Ok, then next question. Abroad for a long time, lonely or not it tough?

-       Well, sometimes I thought about my mother country, but, I worked there for money, so no much.

-       Um, yeah. So this is the last question. The form is a little bit different, but it is similar with my dream. My dream is a UN international meeting planner or a diplomat, who are all work in an abroad, and also using many languages. So do you have anything want to tell me, like an advice?

-       Um, even if you are in first grade, you speak English very well, especially good pronunciation, so in the future, as I think; you will absolutely be able to achieve your dream. If you keep learning like this, and have many practices, you will perfectly have done all things. And don’t strive hard for being perfect in English. Although it’s great, we and you are not a native. So don’t feel cheap. Just be confident. I’ll root for you!

-       김유진: 안녕하세요. 제 이름은 김유진입니다. 오늘 전 강원외고의 학생으로써 뿐만 아니라 FM교육방송의 학생 기자로써 인터뷰를 하러 왔어요. 만나서 정말 반갑고 제 인터뷰에 응해주셔서 감사해요.

-       양광조씨: 나도 반가워요.

-       김유진: 먼저 간단한 자기 소개 부탁 드릴게요.

-       양광조씨: 나는 양광조이고, 양구가 고향이고, 지금은 강원외고 경비원으로 일하고 있어요.

-       김유진: 이 곳엔 어떻게 오게 되셨나요?

-       양광조씨: 음, 내가 외국어도 좀 할 줄 알고, 또 아이들을 좋아하고 사랑하기 때문이겠죠.

-       김유진: 그래서 지금 하는 일에는 만족 하시나요?

-       양광조씨: 네.

-       김유진: 왜요? 아이들이 좋아서요?

-       양광조씨: 네. 나는 그들을 무척 좋아해요. 나는 나이가 70이 훌쩍 넘었어요. 그래서 학생들 모두가, 뭐랄까 나한테는 자식 같고 손자 손녀 같죠.

-       김유진: 힘드신 점은 없나요?

-       양광조씨: 음, 가끔 14시간 일 할 때를 빼고는 뭐, 없어요. 우리는 세 명이 교대를 해요. 그래서 하루는 아침 6시부터 저녁 8시까지 일을 하죠. 그건 뭐 낮이니까 문제 없죠. 근데 저녁 8시부터 아침 6시까지 14시간 일을 할 땐, 몸이 너무 지쳐요. 문제는 그게 자주 있다는 거죠.

-       김유진: 맞아요. 항상 눈 뜬 채로 밤을 지새야 하시니까 피곤하고 힘드시겠어요.

-       양광조씨: 그렇죠, 뭐.

-       김유진: 네, 그럼 다음 질문은, 여기 오시기 전까지는 뭘 하셨나요?

-       양광조씨: 음, 어떻게 말해야 하지? 난 참 많은 일들을 했어요. 먼저, 양구에서 일했어요. 산 안내하는 일을 했었거든요. 또 베트남 전쟁에 참전했었지요. KAOVA에 있었어요. 나는 치프었죠.

-       김유진: 와, 대단하세요! 어땠나요? 힘들진 않았어요?

-       양광조씨: KAOVA에 있을 때요?

-       김유진: 네, 베트남 가셨을 때요. 가족도 없이 혼자고, 해외에 계셨잖아요.

-       양광조씨: 사실 그 때 내가 23-25살 총각이어서 가족 걱정은 안 했어요.

-       김유진: 아, 그럼 거기서 많은 언어를 배우신 건가요?

-       양광조씨: 내 일생에 있어서, 외국어를 말하는 것은 내 취미였고, 지금도 그래요. 내가 베트남에 갔을 때 나는 베트남인 들을 만나서 베트남어를 배웠어요. 그리고 심지어 거기서 프랑스인, 중국인, 독일인도 만나서 그들의 언어를 배웠구요.

-       김유진: 그러셨군요. 근데 많은 언어를 구사하는 것은 어렵지 않나요?

-       양광조씨: 음, 아니요.

-       김유진: 모든 단어들을 각각 언어에 따라 다르게 외워야 하잖아요.

-       양광조씨: 하지만 난 대신에 지식을 내 머리에 쌓는다고 생각했어요.

-       김유진: 좀 외람된 말이지만, 아직까지도 일곱 가지 언어를 구사하시고, 그것들을 배우실 때 어려움이 없었다니 정말 존경스러워요.

-       양광조씨: 하하, 그런 말을 들으니 놀랍네요.

-       김유진: 정말이에요. 정말 존경스러워요. 그럼 다음 질문은, 해외에 오래 있으면 외롭거나 힘들지는 않나요?

-       양광조씨: 음, 물론 가끔 조국에 대해 생각하긴 했지만, 그게 내 직업이었기 때문에 그렇게 힘들지는 않았어요.

-       김유진: 네, 그렇군요. 이제 마지막 질문이에요. 형태는 다르지만, 제가 꿈과 비슷한 점이 많은 것 같아요. 외국에서 많은 언어를 사용하며 일하는 것, 제 꿈은 un국제 회의 기획자나 외교관인데 혹시 해주고 싶으신 말이 있으신 가요? 조언 같은 거요.

-       양광조씨: 넌 아직 1학년이고, 영어도 잘하고, 발음도 좋으니까 미래에 너는 꿈을 꼭 이룰 수 있을 거야. 계속 이렇게 공부하고, 연습한다면 모든 일을 해낼 수 있을 거야. 그리고 영어를 완벽하게 구사하려고 애쓰지마. 물론 그것도 좋겠지만, 우리는 그 나라 사람이 아니잖아? 기죽지 말고, 항상 힘내. 내가 응원할게.

-       김유진: 좋은 말씀 너무 감사해요. 더불어 제 첫 번째 인터뷰에 응해주시고, 이렇게 성공적으로 끝마쳐 주셔서 감사합니다.
